Orfeo
Audiophile qualities are not always dependent on size
The Orfeo has become a true classic in the ODEON model range. For 20 years, despite its small size, the Orfeo has stood for great music reproduction that regularly amazes experienced audiophiles. Its various versions have won several awards and the hearts of over a thousand customers. In 2024, ODEON AUDIO launches the new and updated Orfeo with an improved cabinet design to further enhance its performance and ensure its success for years to come.
„… their playability is absolutely astounding in this size and efficiency league…“

The Orfeo uses particularly pure oxidation-free copper cabling (OFC) from German production. The multiple mechanical shielding of the high-frequency cable virtually eliminates all microphonic effects. This cable quality is normally only used in recording studios. The speaker terminals are mounted on acrylic plates, which accommodate the complete crossover and thus enable a direct connection between the terminals and the crossover. The use of large metal connections as a carrier material is deliberately avoided, as this has a negative effect on the function of the crossover components during operation.
The tweeter is a special design by the French manufacturer Audax. The 25mm dome tweeter is manufactured with a copper voice coil and the dome is made from a specially impregnated fabric. The tweeter is insusceptible to distortion and provides outstanding characteristics in terms of speed and resolution. These qualities are supported by the ODEON AUDIO birch plywood horn. The horn functions as a mechanical amplifier that relieves the tweeter and thus contributes decisively to a relaxed sound character while providing highest resolution.
The low-midrange driver is made by the renowned Danish company Scan Speak. Like the tweeter, this driver is a custom-made product outside of normal mass production. By a combination of a handmade and coated cellulose cone with a very fine and flexible rubber surround and fabric centering, this system impresses with midrange characteristics that are unique in this price class as well as an extremely controlled bass.
A medium density fibreboard (MDF) is used for the cabinet. Our master craftsmen only use MDF with a particularly high proportion of wood fibers and binding agents, which are compressed under high pressure. This special material avoids disturbing resonances and excludes discoloration effects. The MDF used in the ODEON AUDIO models is up to 1.8 times heavier than conventional MDF and therefore much more stable. This makes it particularly suitable for sophisticated loudspeaker concepts.
In order to keep the deviations between the channels as small as possible, we use selected components in the crossovers with a maximum deviation of only one percent.
Only non-aging components (film capacitors) are used. The coils used come from Mundorf. In most loudspeakers in the high-end range, the crossovers are built on Pertinax boards and the individual components are connected by conductor wire paths. In contrast, the Orfeo crossovers are wired by hand, soldered point to point and then mechanically secured to prevent movement of the sensitive components and thus reducing negative vibration effects on the crossover components. The point-to-point wiring minimizes electrical transitions in the signal path. What is regarded as a quality feature in high-quality tube amplifiers is rarely implemented in loudspeaker construction as consistently as in ODEON AUDIO products.
